In recent years, swimwear fashion has taken a turn toward sustainability, focusing on the goal of combining design, performance and environmental care.
From reclaimed materials to design, here are the top trends for summer 2025.
1. Remanufactured and biodegradable materials
ECONYL® regenerated nylon, made from fishing nets and plastic waste, is now a major player in the industry: it reduces atmospheric impact by up to 80 percent compared to virgin nylon and is Oeko-Tex certified.
Biodegradable and renewably sourced fabrics, such as bio-based polyamides and organic cotton, are also appearing.
2. Ethical and transparent production
More and more brands are choosing transparent supply chains, ensuring fair wages, controlled working conditions and small-scale production to reduce waste.
In 2025 we see a growth in partnerships with small local manufactures and women’s communities, enhancing local economies.
3. Intelligent design: functionality and style
Regenerated materials do not limit the aesthetics: we see strategic cut-outs, one-shoulders, asymmetries, botanical or metallic prints, and vibrant colors.
Chlorine- and saltwater-resistant performance fabrics with UV protection and quick drying are now the norm in eco-friendly garments as well.
4. Circular supply chain and slow swim
There is growing interest in circular design: costumes designed to be recycled or biodegrade over time.
The slow fashion trend is increasingly spreading, directing the public to prefer a few high-quality pieces that can be worn for multiple seasons.
5. Brand leaders and emerging projects
Established brands such as Reformation use reclaimed nylon and bio-based EVO.
Leading the way in 2025 are Aventura Swimwear (ECONYL Made in Amalfi), BOLDE Wetsuits (stone-based neoprene), Mariella Swimwear with a solidarity mission.
Emerging brands discovered at Gran Canaria Swim Week focus on local crafts, digital printing and recycled fabrics: Econaked, Patricia Caro, Monnur, Daria Bae.
Adidas Parley also continues to innovate by using ECONYL® in its swimwear.
6. Green accessories for the beach
Sunglasses made of bio-acetate or recycled from nets, reusable water bottles and natural rubber flip-flops are becoming increasingly popular conscious choices for a plastic-free sea.
